Heartland Works, Inc. (HWI) is a workforce development board and private non-profit organization offering workforce development services in a seventeen county region of northeast Kansas called Local Area II (LAII).
Our customers include job seekers and employers who access services provided by a network of partners through Workforce Centers located in Junction City, Lawrence, Manhattan and Topeka. Our work is funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and other grant opportunities.
The Chief Elected Officials Board (CEOB) and Local Workforce Development Board (LWDB) provide visionary leadership and oversight to workforce development in Kansas Local Area II (LAII). CEOB members are elected officials from the seventeen county service area, while LWDB members are leaders from business, labor, economic development, government, public assistance, education, youth and community based organizations.
